The NeuroCatch Device: A New Era in Cognitive Rehabilitation

One of the tools that make our cognicare program unique is the NeuroCatch device. This cutting-edge technology allows us to assess brain function in real time, providing valuable insights into cognitive performance.

What is the NeuroCatch?

The NeuroCatch is a portable device that measures brainwaves to give a quick snapshot of your brain’s cognitive functions. It uses safe and painless EEG technology(measures brain activity when responding to things like sounds or images) to evaluate three main areas of brain health:

  1. Attention: Measures how well you can focus on tasks.
  2. Processing Speed: Evaluates how quickly your brain can process information.
  3. Memory: Assesses your brain’s ability to recall information.

With NeuroCatch, our team can track your progress in cognitive rehab and adjust your treatment plan as needed. This ensures that your therapy is as effective and personalized as possible.

What Happens in Our Cognitive Rehab Program?

Our cognitive rehabilitation therapy combines the best practices in brain training with hands-on support from our expert team. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Comprehensive Cognitive Assessment

The first step is understanding where you’re starting from. We also have you meet with one of our licensed psychologists to perform a cognitive test to assess memory, attention and other cognitive strengths and problems.

The NeuroCatch® device is also used as an objective cognitive function test. This tool gives you a window into your mind by measuring your brain’s response in real-time to various stimuli and generates a snapshot of some key cognitive functions.

These evaluations combined assist us in providing an individualized treatment plan based on your needs.

2. Cognitive Exercises for Focus and Memory

Strengthening attention span and memory is a core part of the cognicare program. We incorporate a variety of cognitive exercises designed to be both fun and challenging, helping you build mental endurance. From brain games and puzzles to structured memory tasks, these activities are aimed at boosting your brain’s ability to focus and retain information. Each exercise is chosen to target areas that need improvement, keeping the sessions engaging and effective.

3. Physical Exercise for Brain Health

There is a relationship between physical fitness and cognitive health. Exercise boosts circulation to the brain, aids neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to shape new neural connections), and promotes general cognitive performance. Follow along with our kinesiologist, Serena Weaver, in targeted body and brain exercises that highlight the connection between exercise and brain health. In this manner, each exercise will help your brain as much as your muscles, providing lasting protection against cognitive decline.

4. Core Cognitive Skills Training

Our program aims at key cognitive functions other than memory and attention, including higher–order skills such as problem-solving, planning, and organizing. Refining these essential skills makes daily life easier to navigate, from arranging your to-do list to managing complicated assignments at work. MacKenzie Carter, our provisional psychologist, walks you through exercises that build these necessary skills to ensure that your cognitive rehabilitation is well-rounded and applicable to the real world.

5. Ongoing NeuroCatch® Tracking

As you work through the program, the NeuroCatch® device helps to track your progress. The idea is to use simple and efficient assessments that allow you to track changes in cognitive function over time. We call it a “brain fitness tracker” — something that tracks your progress to help us tailor your exercises and give you tangible, quantifiable insights. The tracking that continues across the progress in the journey helps us remain responsive to your needs and ensure you have positive momentum.

6. Integrative Treatment Approach

The baseline cognitive evaluations are used to develop your custom treatment plan, which consists of routine psychology sessions, brain games, and targeted cognitive health exercises. It covers all bases in your cognicare program, from mental workouts to emotional support to physical workouts. By incorporating diverse forms of therapy, we deliver a comprehensive treatment option for your body and mind.

Who Can Benefit from the Cognicare Program?

We developed our cognicare program to be used by a broad spectrum of people, such as:
Brain Injuries or Strokes Recovery

Cognicare Program—especially for people recovering from brain injuries, concussions, or strokes—is used to help restore memory, attention, and other problem-solving skills, encouraging confidence in day-to-day life.

Age-Related Cognitive Decline

Even older adults who undergo memory and attention issues can remain astute and active by participating in focused mental workouts.

Illness-related or Long COVID "Brain Fog"

Addressing mental fog: Cognitive exercises enhance clarity of thought and improve focus in those whose mental abilities have deteriorated post-illness, including those only recently recovering from COVID-19.

Athletes Recovering from Concussions

Athletes with concussions can be fine-tuned for cognitive processing, reaction time, and mental sharpness to ensure a safe return to peak performance.

Patients With Neurological Disorders

Cognitive exercises can help people with Parkinson's, MS or dementia stay sharp and even remain independent longer.

People with ADHD or Learning Differences

Targeted cognitive training helps enhance attention, memory, and organizational skills for individuals with ADHD and learning challenges.
