How to boost the immune system naturally

The lymphatic system is the transportation component of the immune system

Stimulating the lymphatic system with Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) increases the rate of flow of lymph fluid, antigens, and inflammatory agents to the lymph nodes.

As a result, antigens are put in contact with immunological agents (such a B and T lymphocytes) at a faster rate, because they are transported to the lymph nodes quicker than normal.  Increased contact with these agents can increase the rate at which we return to optimal health.

Many clients comment that with regular MLD they experience fewer bouts of flu and colds than usual and often find a reduction in allergic reactions to common environmental allergens. A number of people are also combining MLD with cleansing to aid in ridding their bodies of heavy metals and negative environmental elements. A number of clients have supplemented herbal cleanses, kelation therapy, and other forms of cleansing, with MLD in an attempt to increase the effectiveness of these therapies.

Manual Lymph Drainage was show to improve immune function in the following study:
Hodge LM, King HH, Williams AG, et al: Abdominal lymphatic pump treatment increases leukocyte count flux in thorasic duct lymph. Res Biol 2007, 5: 127-134

The study demonstrates that the MLD lymphatic pump technique performed on the abdominal region significantly increased leukocyte counts.

Absolute & Relative Contra-Indications

Contra-indications are conditions or factors that serve as a reason to withhold a certain medical treatment. Due to the effectiveness of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) in accelerating lymph flow there are a number of health concerns that do not allow individuals to receive MLD.   If you are experiencing any of the following situations please discuss these with our In Step physiotherapist prior to receiving any treatment:

  • Untreated Malignant Diseases
  • Acute Inflammations
