Greg Cooper
Performance coach
Greg Cooper is a performance coach, personal trainer, and judo coach based in Edmonton, Alberta, who helps athletes and clients build strength, confidence, discipline, and long-term performance. His coaching philosophy is rooted in athlete-centred development, combining technical coaching, physical preparation, mindset training, and accountability to help people improve both on and off the mat.
Greg’s background as an athlete gives him a deep understanding of high-level sport and what it takes to perform under pressure. He represented Team Alberta and Judo Canada as a cadet and junior athlete, competed multiple times at the National Championships, earned two Alberta Winter Games medals, and collected multiple Canadian Circuit medals. He also became a former Canadian Amateur Strongman (U90kg) clean-and-press national record holder, bringing a rare blend of combat sport, strength sport, and performance experience to his coaching.
As a coach, Greg believes in building durable athletes, not just winning sessions. He has served as an Assistant Coach with Judo Saskatchewan, a Volunteer Judo Coach at the Saskatoon YMCA, and is currently the Lead Instructor at Kodokwai Judo Club, where he focuses on long-term development, confidence, and creating an environment where athletes can grow with purpose. His approach emphasizes solid fundamentals, progressive overload, movement quality, mental resilience, and helping each person train in a way that supports their goals and their life outside the gym
I approach personal training and strength and conditioning with the belief that every athlete and client should be trained as an individual, not just a program number. My goal is to build stronger, more resilient, and more confident people through smart programming, movement quality, progressive overload, and consistent accountability. I focus on developing the physical qualities that matter most for performance — strength, power, speed, durability, and work capacity — while also teaching clients how to train with purpose and trust the process. Whether I’m working with athletes, busy adults, or lifelong learners, I aim to create training that is effective, sustainable, and aligned with both their goals and their lifestyle. This athlete-centred approach reflects best practices in strength and conditioning, where coach-athlete relationships, individualized programming, and long-term development are key drivers of success.
